A day of discussion and exploration with historians and archaeologists.
On Saturday 8th October, Farncombe Estate is proud to host
Lords, Halls and Chronicles: A Thirteenth Century Miscellany.
This is your chance to listen and contribute to a panel of medieval historians and archaeologists on the politics and society of ‘long thirteenth century’ England.
This day of historical delving, organised by heritage charity The Simon de Montfort Society, will concentrate on the secular elite. Topics include How to win friends and influence people; models of lordship in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and Entertainment in the Gentry Household.
Medieval experts Professor Peter Coss (Cardiff University), Professor David Carpenter (Kings College, London), Professor Tom James (University of Winchester) and Dr John Hunt (University of Birmingham) will draw on published and unpublished research to discuss the material world of the elite and royalty. The day will also feature the discovery of The Pershore Flores Historiarum, a previously-unrecognised Worcestershire chronicle of this period.
Fees for the day (10am to 4.15pm), including morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea, are £40 for members of the Simon de Montfort Society and £45 for non-members.
To book your place, please send a cheque payable to ‘The Simon de Montfort Society' to the Hon Treasurer, Mr T Paul Jenkins, 4 The Mews, Head Street, Pershore, Worcestershire WR10 1DA. Please say if you have any dietary requirements.
This is an event organised directly by the Simon de Montfort Society. Queries should be directed to David Snowden on 01386 421747.
