The Fleece Inn Asparagus Festival Day

This year The Fleece Inn will host its annual Asparagus festival day on bank holiday Monday, May 31st. Opening times are 11am – 4pm and visitors to the festival will include Morris dancers, a traditional farmers market, Agricultural demonstrations and cookery demonstrations among many others.

The festival brings thousands of visitors to the Vale of Evesham every year and creates amazing press opportunities for the area. It is the biggest annual event at The Fleece Inn and a brilliant opportunity for various crafts and local produce to be displayed and sold to the general public.

Craft stalls for the day are £35 and availability is limited so please ensure you complete your application form in good time. Full payment for the day is requested once your position has been confirmed. The deadline for applications is March 10th 2010.

The pub is a symbol of Britain. It provides us with a sense of pride, of community and best of all a welcoming place in which to enjoy a pint. The series “Last Orders at the Bar” documents the loss of the traditional British pub. Each image presents us with a once thriving hub of the community, now empty and alone. Whether nestled within a busy street, or hidden away within a forgotten rural setting; amongst the demolition and dereliction lays architectural gems sodden with memories of times passed. Each image pertains to a lost charm ravaged by twenty first century life.

These photographs act not as an obituary for the British public house, but a petition against their decline and a testament to a different era.

The Evesham Asparagus Festival draws to a close on Sunday 3rd June in the gorgeous village of Bretforton. Bretforton is a short 10 minute drive from Broadway and events centre around The Fleece Inn - a "quintessential village pub" owned by The National Trust. The church Asparagus auction takes place on Sunday, and for Garden lovers it is also Bretforton Open Gardens Day.
