Project Co-ordinator – Midnight Hop Education Project

Project Co-ordinator – Midnight Hop Education Project
SoundWorks Discovery Programme
Town Hall & Symphony Hall, Birmingham
Freelance Contract - £6,000 for circa 40 days + expenses

Town Hall & Symphony Hall, Birmingham are two iconic venues that will jointly present over 620 performances a year from October 2007, when Town Hall reopens following a £35 million refurbishment. The two venues are managed jointly by a charitable trust, Performances Birmingham Limited. Our in-house SoundWorks Discovery Programme harnesses the resources of both venues in order to engage our community, offering a range of interactive, participatory experiences.

We are seeking a highly experienced Project Co-ordinator to work alongside the acclaimed saxophonist, rap and hip-hop artist Soweto Kinch (associate artist of Town Hall) in the delivery of a young people’s performance project based on a new work entitled ‘Midnight Hop’.

Written by Soweto himself, ‘Midnight Hop’ explores the hidden history of black musicians in England during the 18th and 19th centuries and issues around the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave trade. The young people’s own work will be based on the social and cultural themes of the new commission - both works being performed alongside each other on Saturday 13th October as part of the Town Hall’s Reopening Festival. The post-holder will be expected to co-ordinate all participants, artists, funding bodies and staff in the implementation, overseeing, monitoring and evaluating of this unique experience for young people from all over Birmingham.

Reporting to the Head of the SoundWorks Discovery Programme this post will commence as soon as possible. For an application form and Job Description please contact Rebecca Buswell on 0121 644 6051 or emailRebecca.Buswell@thsh.co.uk. Closing date is Tuesday 1st May. Interviews will be held between the 8th and 11th May.
