Listening to the musical empathy generated by the Urban Folk Quartet on their eponymously titled début album, it’s hard to believe they’ve been playing together for less than ten months. Launched in June 2009, the band forged their collective fire in a slew of dazzling gigs in the UK, Italy, Belgium and Spain, headlining major festivals from the outset and winning the Spanish International Folk Competition in Plasencia with only their fourth stage performance.

New play by writing tutor Crysse Morrison opens 24th May

two plays with strange and disturbing new takes on the undead theme. 'St. Nicholas' is by one of Britain's most successful playwrights, Conor McPherson, many of whose plays have a supernatural theme (The Weir, The Seafarer).

'Love Bites' is by Bristol novelist Crysse Morrison whose short plays 'Thursday Coma' and 'Your Time Starts Now' were a hit with critics and a sellout success at the Alma last year."

Crysse is next teaching at Farncombe 3-5 December 2010 "Finding your Writers Voice" - book well in advance to guarantee a place.

Foto8 Summer Show 2010 - Enter Now!

Enter your work for a chance to be exhibited in London’s prestigious HOST gallery and to be awarded Best in Show.

After the enormous success of the previous years’ Summer Shows, Foto8 and HOST Gallery are pleased to announce the call for entries for the third-annual Foto8 Summer Show: a photographic award, exhibition and print fair. The show will follow in Foto8’s tradition of supporting and encouraging work by contemporary and independent photographers.

The Entrants
The 2010 Summer Show is open to all photographers from 29 March. Details on how to enter your work will be available soon. Deadline for all entries is 31 May 2010.

The Exhibition
The Foto8 team including 8 Magazine and HOST gallery editors will choose over 150 images to be displayed at HOST from 26 July – 4 September, to create an inspiring variety of framed and mounted images of all shapes and sizes, installed from floor to ceiling. All works included in the show will be available for sale. The print exhibition will kick-off with live music and a street festival taking over Honduras Street, EC1 on Friday 23 July. Concert for Africa Educational Trust at Farncombe

We are delighted to announce a concert at Farncombe in aid of the Africa Educational Trust, AET, to be given in the Gloucester Room in Springfield House at 8.00 pm on Saturday 26 June 2010. William taught in Kenya in 1967 and worked in the south Sudan from 1973 to 1975 and particularly hopes you will support the work of this excellent charity - see www.africaeducationaltrust.org


Pianist and composer Marcel Zidani ( see www.marcelzidani.co.uk) will perform a programme comprising: Chopin - Nocturne No 19 in E minor; Lieberslied; Rachmaninov Prelude OP32 no 13; Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no 2; Mikhashoff - Casta Diva; Chopin - Fantasy Impromptu in c sharp minor and Hungarian Rhapsody No 12.

Farncombe at Art in Action: 15 - 18 July 2010

Inspired by the simple principle that people are fascinated when artists and craftsmen openly demonstrate their skills and discuss their work, Art in Action began in 1977. Today, Art in Action welcomes approximately 24,000 people over four days to Waterperry Park in Oxfordshire. Visitors come to learn, buy and enjoy, the exhibitions, classes and performances of 400 demonstrating artists, designer makers, teachers, musicians and performers. Farncombe Estate are delighted to be taking part in Art in Action 2010 and a few of our tutors will be running Practical Classes as part of the workshop programme!
